Psychiatry Blogs

Most people are aware of blogs in areas such as politics, sports, ecology and so on. Psychiatrists are also bloggers and we have selected an example of some of the better ones.

For people not very well acquainted with blogs please be aware that

A blog is not peer-reviewed and is frequently very biased. A blog is simply the expression of the author's opinions.

Nevertheless they can be entertaining, thought-provoking and even informative as long as you bear in mind that they are not scientific communications. Blogs are, of course, interactive and feedback is encouraged.

Blogs are usually freely available but subscribing (for free, of course!) to a RSS feed or newsletter will ensure that you are informed about each new entry.

This blog, by Dr Daniel Carlat, concentrates on the subject of medical information and the influence of the pharmaceutical industry.
Dr Daniel Carlat is a psychiatrist in private practice in Newburyport, Massachusetts, USA, who also produces The Carlat Psychiatry Report, a monthly CME newsletter.

The Neurocritic
A blog that takes a critical look at sensational publications (at the press reaction) in the areas of Human Brain Imaging, Cognitive Neuroscience, and Psychopharmacology.

Clinical Psychology and Psychiatry: A Closer Look
A blog by CL Psych, an academic with "a respectable amount of clinical experience and no drug industry funding" as he announces.
The blog concentrates on clinical psychology, psychiatry and the drug industry

The Amazing World of Psychiatry: A Psychiatry Blog
A blog by Dr Justin Marley which is more news oriented than most blogs - comments and criticisms on recent findings in psychiatry and psychopharmacology.
